The 2022 Etna Rosso Moganazzi is dusty, floral and lifted, with an air of confectionery spices and chalk dust that gives way to dried black cherries. This is round and supple.

De wijnbouw op de Etna is eeuwenoud. Vandaar dat er nog veel contrade bestaan, minuscule wijngaarden met veelal oude stokken, die door kleine boeren bewerkt werden. Marco de Grazia, de eigenaar van Terre Nere, was een van de eerste producenten die het unieke karakter van deze wijngaarden op waarde wist te schatten.

Hij vergist zijn contrade of cru’s van het begin af aan dan ook apart en vermeldt de naam van de wijngaard op het etiket. De Grazia maakt graag de vergelijking met de premier cru’s in de Bourgogne die ook worden onderscheiden vanwege hun unieke terroir.

Moganazzi (0,7 hectare) is de nieuwste toevoeging aan het assortiment van Terre Nere. De vulkanische bodem bestaat onder meer uit as en puimsteen, de stokken zijn er tussen de 40 en 100 jaar oud. De nerello mascalese (en een minieme hoeveelheid nerello cappuccio) wordt met de hand geoogst.

De houtopvoeding van zo’n 18 maanden geeft deze toch al bewaarwaardige wijn nog wat extra complexiteit en bewaarpotentieel. De Moganazzi is elegant en floraal, met de kenmerkende opwekkende frisheid, maar ook de krachtige structuur. Drink ‘m bij mooie vleesgerechten, of gerijpte kazen.

Proefnotitie

Helderrood van kleur, iets evolutie; krachtig van geur met kruidige en rijpe nuances van rood fruit en gebrande tonen. Elegante inzet en sappige smaakevolutie met milde tannine in de afdronk.

Drinken bij

Fraaie wijn bij verfijnde vleesschotels of kruidige ovengerechten.

Houdbaarheid

Op dronk vanaf twee à drie jaar na oogst, gemakkelijk tot zeker zes jaar houdbaar.
