Lytton Springs is een beroemde, aaneengesloten wijngaard (single vineyard) in Dry Creek Valley, met wijnstokken tot wel 100(!) jaar oud. De planten groeien er als ongeleide 'bush vines' laag bij de grond. De arme kiezelrijke en kleihoudende bodem zorgt voor natuurlijk lage rendementen (gem. 30 hl/ha) en een excellente concentratie in de druiven.

Lytton Springs is een blend van hoofzakelijk zinfandel, aangevuld met kleine hoeveelheden petite sirah, carignane en mataro (mourvèdre) voor extra complexiteit. Na de gisting rijpt de wijn veertien maanden in kleine fusten van eerste-, tweede- en derdejaars Amerikaans eikenhout.

Proefnotitie

Deze wijn is diep donkerrood en heeft een rijp en verfijnd aroma van zwarte kersen, laurier, vanille en witte peper. Krachtig, vol en superverleidelijk van smaak, met een opvallend goede drinkbaarheid. De afdronk is kruidig, lang en complex.

Drinken bij

Heerlijk om zo van te genieten of te combineren met verfijnde (vlees)gerechten van de grill.

Houdbaarheid

Gemakkelijk houdbaar tot tien jaar na de oogst. Beluchten in een karaf is aanbevolen, indien jong gedronken.
